Director | NEW INC at the New Museum
Advisory Board Contributor

Salome Asega is an artist and researcher whose practice celebrates dissensus and multivocality. She is the new director of NEW INC, the New Museum’s cultural incubator founded in 2013. The New Museum is New York City’s only museum exclusively devoted to contemporary art. Asega, whose tenure became effective July 25, oversees 100 creative entrepreneurs, a community of 600 alumni, and a distinguished group of mentors, steering plans for future growth. Before NEW INC Salome was a tech fellow at the Ford Foundation, where she served as the inaugural New Media Art Research Fellow for Creativity and Free Expression for the past four years. At Ford, she supported research to define hybrid approaches in the art and technology ecosystem.

Asega is also the co-host of speculative talk show Hyperorpia: 20/30 Vision on bel-air radio, and a director of POWRPLNT, a digital art collaboratory in Bushwick. Asega has participated in residencies and fellowships with Eyebeam, New Museum, The Laundromat Project, and Recess Art. She has exhibited and given presentations at the 11th Shanghai Biennale, Performa, EYEO, and the Brooklyn Museum. Asega received her MFA from Parsons at The New School in Design and Technology where she also teaches.
