Nikita Sonavane
Nikita Sonavane has worked as a criminal defense attorney and legal researcher for nearly seven years. She is the cofounder of the Criminal Justice and Police Accountability Project (CPAProject), an India-based research driven litigation and advocacy intervention focused on building accountability against criminalization of oppressed caste communities by the police in India. Her research lies at the intersection of caste, policing, and digital datafication in India. Sonavane has been selected as a Visiting Scholar at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI). She was awarded a visiting research fellowship at the University of Oxford in 2022 to work on antidiscrimination law in India. She has also been awarded the Ashoka Fellowship in 2023 for her work with the CPA Project. Her work has been featured in Forbes, AI Now Institute at New York University, the Indian Express, the Hindu, Caravan, among others.
