Dan O’Sullivan is the founding associate dean of the Emerging Media Institute, encompassing four departments at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He is also TBS Chair at ITP/IMA, succeeding his mentor Red Burns. Under his leadership, the department expanded to include IMA, a large undergraduate degree; a global low-residency master’s degree; ITP Camp; programs in Shanghai and Abu Dhabi; and moved to anchor NYU’s new Media Technology and Art center in Brooklyn. O’Sullivan teaches foundational coding classes, and electives encouraging students to study perception and imagination as they create computational media depicting it. His current research focuses on using machine learning to create synthetic media.

O’Sullivan was a member of the Just Tech Advisory Board from 2021 to 2023.
