Who Should Participate? 

Ideal candidates come from all disciplines, ranging from community organizers to researchers to technologists. What they share in common is a desire to work in an  authentically diverse field  that supports activists, journalists and citizen advocates from around the world, who are facing next generation issues brought on by technology.

In addition, participants can be based anywhere in the world because many of the participating organizations have distributed teams, with staff based in various regions. If you are new to the digital rights field, this is a great opportunity to connect with amazing organizations and see what jobs are available!   We strongly encourage the participation of people who speak one or more languages, and are from underrepresented groups and/or diaspora communities. There is also a great need for young technologists looking to start their career in Internet Freedom spaces.

What Organizations are Participating? 

Participating organizations  work on  issues ranging from online censorship to surveillance, disinformation, online harassment, whistleblowing, Internet freedom, and the protection of groups such as activists, journalists, women, and sexual minorities, among others. They understand the impact the Internet is having on our societies, and are motivated to advocate for a free and open Internet where individuals, no matter where they come from, can express themselves safely and securely online, without fear of repercussions. 		Open Culture Foundation (OCF) is a non-profit organization based in Taiwan that believes “open” as the root of internet and social design. We dedicate ourselves to promoting open source, open data, open government, digital rights and internet freedom.
		The Tor Project is a nonprofit that advances human rights and defend users privacy online through free software and open networks.
		IVPN is a VPN service that has been independently audited by cure53, has undergone a no-logging audit and a comprehensive pentest report.IVPN is run by a team of information security experts and privacy activists.
		Just Tech at SSRC supports and mobilizes diverse and cross-sector cohorts of researchers and practitioners to imagine and create more just, equitable, and representative technological futures.
		PEN America stands at the intersection of literature and human rights to protect open expression in the United States and worldwide.
		Cloudflare’s mission is to help build a better Internet. Today the company runs one of the world’s largest networks, building products based on cutting edge cryptography and Internet standards to help people improve the security and performance of their web sites and services.
		The Calyx Institute is a non-profit education and research organization devoted to studying, testing and developing and implementing privacy technology and tools to promote free speech, free expression, civic engagement and privacy rights on the internet and in the mobile communications industry.
		The Digital Asia Hub is an independent, non-profit Internet and society research think tank based in Hong Kong. Incubated by The Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University and a diverse group of academic, civil society, and private sector partners, the Hub provides an open, and collaborative platform for research, knowledge sharing and capacity building related to Internet and Society issues with a focus on digital Asia.
		GreatFire is an organization that monitors censorship and promotes free speech online, particularly in China. We are united by a belief in universal rights to access information and the ability to use technology to defend these rights.
		Globaleaks is an open source software that enables anyone to easily setup a maintain a secure whistleblowing platform.
		SMEX is a Lebanese NGO that works to advance self-regulating information societies in the Arab-Speaking region
		The Engine Room is a nonprofit that helps activists, organisations, and other social change agents make the most of data and technology to increase their impact.
		Horizontal supports frontline defenders, activists and journalists through digital security and tool development
		OpenArchive is an experienced research and development organization dedicated to advancing human rights through secure, long-term mobile media preservation.
	..	Open Technology Fund (OTF) is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to advancing internet freedom in the world’s most repressive environments. It is one of the largest internet freedom funders in the word.
		Meedan is a technology non-profit that builds software and initiatives to strengthen global journalism, digital literacy and accessibility of information for the world.
		Ranking Digital Rights advances corporate accountability for human rights in the digital age. They are an independent think-tank based in New America.

The Job Fair will include an opening presentation with information on how to break into the digital rights space, as well as our most recent research on how to improve the health of individuals and networks in the digital rights community. This includes information on Labor Rights and mental health.
