Human Centered Design is increasingly practiced and accepted within and for Healthcare. This acceptance is commonly methodologically grounded in the capacities of design—what design is uniquely able to do. This conception limits the development and functioning of a principled idea of design that is centered by what is, and may be, human in life and living. Here, the commonplace idea of design as a capacity to induce change is uncovered and challenged in the context of care; where the human being served is held as significant beyond the limited capacities of the practitioner.
