Africa’s Green Minerals Strategy
Africa`s Green Minerals Strategy (AGMS) represents a defining moment in the continent’s journey toward sustainable industrialization, energy security, and inclusive growth and sustainable development. With Africa holding a significant share of the world’s green minerals, including lithium, cobalt, nickel, rare earth elements, and platinum group metals, the continent stands at the crossroads of the global energy transition and digital transformation. This strategy provides a roadmap for hamessing Africa’s mineral wealth to drive value addition at source, regional industrialization, and climate resilience. As the world accelerates toward net zero-carbon emission, demand for Africa’s green minerals is set to soar. The AGMS recognizes that Africa must move beyond raw mineral exports and build strong, integrated value chains that foster local beneficiation, job creation, and economic diversification. The strategy aligns with the Africa Mining Vision (AMV) by advocating for equitable and sustainable mineral resource management, ensuring that mineral wealth translates into broad-based socio-economic development.
